ABOUT

A woman with braided hair and wearing a red garment is performing a dance move in a dimly lit room with warm lighting.

I am a Creative. Born in Philadelphia, the city of grit and determination. It ran through my blood from a young age. My great grandmother incepted energy and performance naturally into my body as she taught my older sister and I how to do cartwheels, swim, and praise dance. She gave me the spiritual food to carry me through my life.

When I was a teenager, I auditioned for a youth dance company, Music and Motion Dance Productions which ignited the passion for audience engagement, performance and introduced dance technique.

MY STORY

  • High school led to a deeper love for hip hop technique, instilled sharpness in my dance routines and gave me the foundation of discipline. I decided to pursue a degree in fine arts, and was rejected by my professors when I was told that I learned dance backward as ballet was not learned until I reached the college level.

I relocated to Baltimore in 2010 on a life endeavor of escape and newness. I traveled the path of working in corporate America for years, all while losing and choosing to quiet my inner artist voice. It was a pivotal moment that I resigned from that company, hopped on a bus and took three days to get to Colorado, where I contemplated in the mountains what’s next when I return to Baltimore.

Diving deep into that transition upon my return, the Charm City then spoke to my steadfastness  and my artistry became the groundwork and landing spot for my career path. As a dancer, educator, collaborator, and interdisciplinary artist, with hard work and determination I connected each opportunity that has led me to understanding the power of my faith, the power of my art, the power of community, and the power of Noelle Tolbert.
